FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What Can I do with a BASI qualification?
There are four BASI levels, with Level 1 as the first level and Level 4 (ISTD) as the highest level.
A BASI qualification allows you to teach anywhere in the world, including Europe, New Zealand
and the Americas. Whilst you have to be a BASI Level 3 (ISIA) with the French Test Technique
to work in France, you can work elsewhere with a BASI Level 2, and the BASI GAP can help
you find employment in Europe or elsewhere with your qualifications which will allow you to
teach during university holidays etc. This is where BASI has the edge over the American,
Canadian and New Zealand qualifications which are not recognised in Europe.

Is there a minimum level to attend the course?
We do not specify a minimum level for this course, however the BASI recommend 10 weeks
skiing experience before attending a Level 1 Instructors course. Potential candidates may
be asked to submit a skiing CV of their experience. There is the option to attend a
Ski/Snowboard Assessment day if you are unsure.

Does the course guarantee me a qualification?
The BASI GAP course culminates in the BASI Ski or Snowboard Level 2 qualification.
The levels for this qualification are set by BASI and upheld by the training staff at BASI GAP.
Therefore a qualification to this level cannot be guaranteed but the very best training,
preparation and opportunity to achieve it is available with BASI GAP.

What are my job prospects after the course?
If you are successful on the Level 2 Instructor course then your job prospects are excellent.
Through our knowledge of the industry and extensive contacts, we can help you find employment
on a week to week basis (maybe in university holidays) or for the season. We can even place you
straight after the course if you want to start work right away.

Do BASI GAP organise travel to and from resort?
BASI GAP organise a transfer to and from the airport at a scheduled time at the start and end of the course. This included as part of the course fee. It is the students’ responsibility to make their way to Geneva Airport on the arrival day of the course.

Do I need my own equipment?
When skiing/riding for an extended period such as this, it is no longer really practical to hire equipment, so we would recommend that you buy your own skis/board and boots. However you will be able to benefit from discounted prices available through our partner organisations in resort.

How Can I find out more information about BASI GAP and this course?
Call us on 0870 760 7360 (Val d’Isere) or 0844 484 3663 (Meribel/Courchevel)

Can I use a Career Development Loan to fund my course?
Yes we have had a few students use this option in the past. Barclays seem to be the leading High Street Bank offering career Development Loans but we would suggest contacting your own bank first.

Do I get any free time on the course to go free skiing?
Yes you will get lots of free skiing time. The first two weeks are very intensive but after your skiing action plan has been created you will have lots of things to practise!  One of the benefits of doing a GAP course is that you always have people to ski with who are working on similar areas.

Am I too young/ too old for the course?
The minimum age for the course is 16. We have no maximum age! If you are concerned that you may too old for the group please contact us as we keep a record of the ages of students on the course so we can recommend a course which suits you.

How do I reserve my place on the course?
You can book your place online with a £500 deposit. Please read our terms and conditions before committing to payments.

Can I pay for the whole course by credit card?
Yes you can but there will be an extra charge for using a credit card (Please see terms and conditions). Most students pay the deposit by credit card and then arrange to send cheques or use bank transfers.

Can I come out before the course/ or stay on after the course?
If you would like to come out before the course or stay on after we can help arrange your accommodation.  The earlier you tell us the easier it is to sort out.

Does the course provide a uniform?
The Courchevel and Meribel Course include a GAP jacket (normally from The North Face)
